Immigrating to Australia is a very popular option . . . all of that “throw another shrimp on the barbie” shenanigans, who wouldn’t want to live “down-under” (once you’ve persuaded the kids that just because Australia is at the bottom of the globe it doesn’t mean that you’ll have to walk around upside down and they are in no danger whatsoever of falling off).  Of course, a couple of hundred years ago it wasn’t so popular when the place was full of penal colonies, but things have really changed since then.

These days, if you want to start a new life in Australia there are a few different ways to go about it. The Australian government has a variety of different programs whether you need to move and work in Australia, obtain an business visa for Australia or qualify for a skilled migration visa. These migration programs may be of interest to you if;

• you’re a skilled worker or professional and want to live and work in Australia
• you want permanent Australian residency
• you want to make a temporary visit to Australia, maybe to visit family
• you are an educator
• employers who are willing to sponsor employees with certain skills to permit them to work in Australia
• you want to retire in Australia
• you want to live with your spouse and family in Australia using a family visa

The Australian Migration Program

If you want to live and work in Australia then you will need to be assessed on the following criteria;

• you must be able to speak and understand the English language – check
• your health will be taken into account – check
• your age will be taken into account – check (well, if we’re quick anyway, I’m not getting any younger you know)
• your financial resources – you must be able to prove that you are capable of supporting yourself and your family financially for a lengthy period until you are able to find work – game over!
• if you have skills which are in short supply in Australia, you’ll have a much better chance of your Australia immigration application becoming successful
